India won their first match, a 16-0 victory against Uzbekistan in Pool A, and then defeated Singapore, 16-1, under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Singh.

India defeated Japan, who won the gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games, 4-2 on Thursday to maintain their winning run. This was India’s biggest test of the season.

On Saturday, India will play a key match against their nearby foe Pakistan in an effort to improve their record.

With three victories thus far, the Pakistani team is similarly on a roll like the Indian team. After defeating Singapore 11-0 to start their campaign, Pakistan went on to defeat Bangladesh 5-2 and Uzbekistan 18-2.

Harmanpreet Singh, captain of India, said that his side would benefit from the lessons it has gained from previous tournament games as they prepare to play Pakistan.

The competition has started off well for us, but the most significant element so far is that with each opponent, we have discovered new aspects of our gameplay and ways to enhance it. It is now simply a matter of keeping the momentum and putting the things we are learning every day into practice, he added. “We have stayed undefeated, which gives us confidence heading into our game against Pakistan that we are in excellent condition and rhythm.

Pakistan has also yet to lose in the competition, defeating Singapore 11-0 in their first game and Bangladesh 5-2 in their subsequent encounter. On Thursday, Pakistan played their third Pool A game and defeated Uzbekistan 18-2.

In addition, Harmanpreet discussed the atmosphere in the locker room before of the match against Pakistan and said that the squad was keen to maintain their winning streak in Hangzhou.

“Whenever there is a game versus Pakistan, the locker room is usually buzzing with anticipation. The loudest and most vocal are almost invariably the supporters. We are aware that we must perform at our peak against Pakistan since they have a strong squad that has been doing really well. The results so far have inspired us, and we are keen to continue our winning run in the competition,” he stated.

The two sides last faced off in an August pool game at the Hero Asian Champions Trophy in Chennai, which India won 4-0. Since 2013, India and Pakistan have played 24 times, with India winning 16 of the matches, Pakistan winning 5 of them, and three games ending in a tie.

“We have shown some tremendous progress in the first three games, and we are happy with our performance,” stated head coach Craig Fulton. Of course, there is always room for development, and it is imperative that we focus on them in the days leading up to the match against a powerful team like Pakistan, who is also having a successful campaign. We are certain that we will succeed in our objectives on Saturday since we are aware of what they are.
